It’s just the two of us and our dogs, Ronnie and Bluebell. These videos follow the real, day-to-day work of island life: hauling livestock by boat, building fences and shelters, clearing land by hand, making sea glass jewelry, cooking from scratch, and creating a life in a place that was once a thriving outport community — now quiet for over 50 years. Before the island, Matty spent years living in wild places across Canada — from building log cabins in the Yukon, to primitive survival in the desert, to off-grid living deep in the woods with just a dog and a pack. At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science. The focus of Ashley’s YouTube channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors.
