In the spring of 2025 we began building an off-grid homestead in the Boreal Forest of Newfoundland, Canada. We started with an acre, a shed, some goals and dreams, and a 30 year old cabin. No power, no running water (besides the brook next to us), no previous experience. We spent all of our savings to get us here, escaped 9-5 city life. Now the real work begins. I raise sheep in Alberta Canada. I run approximately 300 Rideau Arcott ewes, and lamb from January-March. I grow the majority of my feed, and run most farm operations alone.
